PLE COMMUNITY SHIELD DREAM LIVES ON
MBABANE – The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) is intensifying its efforts to secure sponsors for the inaugural Eswatini Community Shield tournament.
This is a new competition announced by the new PLE Executive Committee (ExCo), led by Polycarp Dlamini, just nine days after they took office. This was on August 19, 2024. Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Pat Vilakati, recently provided an update on the new tournament. Vilakati stated that the organisation is still in the process of getting sponsorship for the contest. He did not specify exact dates but mentioned, “We are currently searching for sponsors, as it will be this season’s campaign that will produce the clubs to face off. We can’t use the previous season’s champions as it is a general rule that clubs need to be informed beforehand about the new tournament and their qualification criteria.”
He hinted that the winners of the MTN League and the Ingwenyama Cup, sponsored by the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF), might compete in the Community Shield.
In the English Premier League (EPL), the league winner and the Emirates FA Cup winner play each other in the new season’s curtain-raiser.
Currently, the PLE has three tournaments. These are the MTN League, the Ingwenyama Cup, and the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup.
