RED RHINOS TOP NATIONAL FIRST DIVISION CHARTS
MBABANE – Red Rhinos (formerly Tambankulu Callies) are making their ambitions of returning to the Premier League clear.
Currently, Rhinos are perched at the top of the MTN National First Division (NFD) log standings with 13 points. They have been languishing in mid-table after five fixtures. However, they have since shot up to the summit. The log leaders have benefitted from the Tambankulu derby that was not played during the season kick-off.
Awarded
Tambankulu Celtics were unable to fulfil the fixture, resulting in Percy Shongwe’s side being awarded three points and goals by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Disciplinary Committee (DC). This decision pushed Rhinos three places up the ladder, leaving them just one point shy of Denver Sundowns and Malanti Chiefs, who are on 11 points in second and first places, respectively. The Tambankulu-based side then overtook them with a hard-fought victory against regional adversaries, CK Survivors. They prevailed 2-1 in a match played at KaLanga Technical Centre, two days ago.
This win saw them lead the pack, as Sundowns were on a standby fixture, last weekend. Meanwhile, Malanti’s visit to Pigg’s Peak Rangers was halted during the first-half due to a stormy weather, with the score level at 1-1. Rhinos Coach Shongwe, expressed his delight about their top position, describing it as a bonus. He said their immediate goal is to amass 23 points in the first round to stay clear of the drop zone.
