NO REPRIEVE FOR SITSEBE
MBABANE – Namibia skipper Zenatha Coleman stole the show, as she scored a brace to deny Sitsebe a victory in their last Hollywoodbets Women’s COSAFA Championship match, yesterday.
A windy iconic Isaac Wolfson Stadium in Gqeberha, South Africa (SA) was home to this clash before a sizeable crowd, yesterday. The sides faced off in the ‘dead rubber’ Hollywoodbets Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) clash. Both goalkeepers were quite busy from the first whistle. Regardless, Namibia captain Zenatha Coleman broke the deadlock before the first quarter-mark from Anna Shikusho’s cross, leaving goalkeeper Gcinile Dlamini watching haplessly.
This encounter was guided by the usage of a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. The ‘Brave Gladiators’, as Namibia are affectionately known, almost stretched their lead just before the opening period ended. In contrast, defender Simangele ‘Smash’ Sikhondze’s strong right foot came to Eswatini’s rescue. Namibia enjoyed a slender lead when Zambian referee Gloria Sambumba signalled for a breather. Upon resumption of play, it could have been a second goal for Namibia in the 50th minute. However, Sambumba gave Dlamini, who was lying down after colliding with a player, the benefit of the doubt, maintaining Namibia’s score of 0-1 against Eswatini.
Brace
With the icing on her cake, Coleman sealed a brace, equalising to Tenanile Ngcamphalala’s tally of three goals in this tournament, eight minutes after the hour mark. Sitsebe threw everything into their attack for an elusive equaliser. Nevertheless, Namibia’s defence proved strong as they held on for a win. In another fixture, South Africa demolished Seychelles 8-1 to continue their dominance. Following the defeat, Sitsebe maintained third position on the group standings. As per the competition rules, only group winners will progress to semi-finals.
