SITSEBE PLAYERS SET TO SHARE OVER E22K
MBABANE – Players of the Eswatini Women’s National Team, Sitsebe, are set to equally share E22 800.
According to sources within the national team structure, Sitsebe players were promised E500 each for every match they win. Sitsebe began the Hollywoodbets Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Women’s Championships on a high note, clinching a 6-0 victory over Seychelles. This win entitled them to E500 per player. however, their next fixture against South Africa, resulted in a 3-0 loss.
In this case, it meant E100 per player, while a draw—something the Eswatini national team was unable to achieve in any of their three fixtures—would have earned them E250 per player. Additionally, sources revealed that the players received E100 as training allowances for the time spent in Gqeberha, South Africa, where the competition was held. Each player earned approximately E300 solely from training, bringing their total earnings per player in the competition to E1 200. In total, the players are said to be sharing E22 800.
Incentives
Meanwhile, one of the national team players confirmed these figures, stating that these were the only funds they were entitled to, as they had enquired about their incentives prior to the competition. Sitsebe played their last match against Namibia, two days ago, where they could not turn their fortunes around as they lost 2-0 but finished ahead of Seychelles in the group standings. On a different note, the recently-appointed Sitsebe Head Coach, Bongani Makhukhula, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, considering the limited preparation time.
“The ladies tried their best, and for me, they really played for their coach, especially given the time available to prepare,” said Makhukhula. Makhukhula, who also coaches Manzini Wanderers Ladies, emphasised that fitness played a crucial role in selecting the squad for the competition. “With only five to six days before the competition, you have to prioritise fit players rather than those who have had no pre-season, as the league resumes next year,” he explained. He also noted that while a few players from other teams were added, the primary concern is fitness, especially since teams like Green Mamba and Young Buffaloes have already began preparing for the upcoming season.
