TENANILE’S COSAFA GLORY IN JEOPARDY
MBABANE – It now requires divine intervention!
This is the story of the senior women’s national team Sitsebe striker, Tenanile Ngcamphalala, who is in the running for the 2024 Hollywoodbets Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Women’s Championship top goalscorer award. The former Eswatini export made her mark in the ongoing tournament, held in Gqeberha, South Africa, by netting a hat-trick in Sitsebe’s opening match against Seychelles.
The local women’s squad humiliated the debutants with a 6-0 scoreline, thanks to Ngcamphalala’s efforts, alongside Celiwe ‘Cece’ Nkambule, who recorded a brace and another goal from Nokuthula Ndlovu. Despite Sitsebe’s elimination from the tournament, the Young Buffaloes Ladies Team formidable striker’s dream of winning the Top Goalscorer Award remains alive.
This comes after the team recorded one win and suffered two defeats in the group stages.
The Bongani Makhukhula-coached side secured a 6-0 victory against Group A bottom dwellers Seychelles, only to face a 3-0 defeat to the seven-time champions, South Africa’s Banyana Banyana. It was the 2006 runners-up captain, who plays for Turkey-based side Fenerbahce S.K. who officially sent Sitsebe packing, netting a brace in the 2-0 win over Eswatini. It is worth noting that Sitsebe finished third in their group with three points and six goals, having failed to find the back of the net in their last two matches.
