‘BULL’ INSTABILITY: ALLY STANDS FIRM
MBABANE – Chief Ally Kgomongwe, Director of capital city giants Highlanders, has made a resolute declaration, stating that he can only hand over control of the club to its loyal patrons, when the time comes.
In an interview during a programme on Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS) 2, which was hosted by veteran broadcaster Mabandla Bhembe, yesterday morning; Kgomongwe addressed a number of pressing issues concerning his team. “I will be in Eswatini soon. If I decide to step down, the only individuals I will entrust the team with are the patrons, as they are the ones who originally gave it to me,” he affirmed. Kgomongwe further clarified that it remains uncertain whether he will remain with the team or depart. “I cannot predict my future. I am a resilient person and remain unfazed by the challenges. Adversity only serves to strengthen one’s resolve. Those involved in trying to bring instability need to seek psychological assistance,” he remarked.
Confessed
When asked about the origins of the current issues within his ‘kraal’, Kgomongwe confessed: “I believe I made a mistake in my delegation of responsibilities. I was under the impression that everything was running smoothly. “I convened a meeting with the Management Committee (MC) and assigned duties to them, as I cannot oversee everything personally. It was only during the last derby match against Swallows that I realised things were amiss.” He was also questioned about potential solutions to the ongoing crisis. Kgomongwe assured that these matters are being addressed internally. “Some individuals seek to enrich themselves; they still owe money for replicas. Highlanders will never face relegation.
Developing
“We are in the process of developing the next national team, which will be predominantly composed of Highlanders players in the next five years. I recently met with the team patrons, and we are addressing these issues with maturity.” Highlanders have been in the news primarily due to a dispute between Kgomongwe and the National Supporters Committee (NSC), which he deems unlawful. Reports indicate that members of the NSC have occasionally arrived at the club’s premises to take players without the approval of the team manager.
While the team had previously taken a break from training, they have since resumed activities.
The MC clarified that their official NSC had been dissolved after two remaining members were ousted. The technical team and a portion of the MC members have indicated they will leave the club if Kgomongwe is compelled to step down.
