MANZINI – In a bid to protect its clients from scammers, among other things, MTN Eswatini has scrapped Mobile Money (MoMo) log books.

The participant said it could be easy for scammers to take a picture of the log book and personal information of MoMo users. Therefore, he wanted to know what MTN Eswatini is doing about that. In response, Msibi said they have stopped using MoMo log books. She said their message to their customers is that they do not have to write their details on the log books anymore. She said they have communicated this information to MoMo agents. On the same note, Msibi said they are also working tirelessly as a company to try to improve in terms of security and ensure that their customers’ MoMo accounts are safe. She urged their customers not to share their MoMo PINs with anyone, because sharing them is the same as giving that person access to your money.
Suspicious
Again, she said if there are suspicious transactions, their system flags them and they launch an investigation. She added that every time they receive a report about scamming, they launch an investigation and later on, hand over their findings to the police to enforce the law. On another note, Msibi confirmed that a person can register up to 10 SIM cards using one ID number. She said since it has come to the fore that some people, in particular scammers, are registering SIM cards using other peoples’ personal information, she warned emaSwati to check how many SIM cards they are not aware of, that have been registered using their ID numbers.
She said they can check this by dialling *1212#.
