MBABANE – Just after 100 days in office, the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Executive Committee (ExCo) has been trained in leadership skills.

The members have been in an intensive workshop over the past three days, which was held in Mhlume. A number of topics from different speakers were covered. One of the key speakers on Friday was former South Africa’s Orlando Pirates administrator, Floyd Mbele. According to the PLE, Mbele enlightened the ExCo on modern football administration. The organisation said the former administrator explored the challenges and opportunities in football, highlighting the importance of integrating the latest technologies, ensuring financial oversight and implementing high-performance strategies to stay competitive.

“He challenged the ExCo to reflect on the legacy they want to leave behind, emphasising the importance of having a clear roadmap to success. Additionally, he tasked the ExCo with drafting a Chairman’s Charter, a guiding framework for leadership and decision-making,” the PLE said on its official Facebook page. The Polycarp Dlamini-led organisation was also educated on corporate governance. The First National Bank (FNB) Chief Marketing Officer, Zethu Dlamini, urged them to explore revenue-generating opportunities and attract sponsors. Another topic discussed was the marketing and branding of football. The PLE was urged to explore the use of digital platforms to further connect with fans and improve the marketing of the sport locally and internationally.

According Sports Legacy, good governance is essential in running a football organisation because it ensures transparency and accountability, which build trust among stakeholders. It promotes efficient and effective decision-making, leading to better management of resources and operations. Good governance also helps in maintaining integrity and fairness, which are crucial for the organisation’s reputation. Lastly, it supports sustainable growth and long-term success by fostering a culture of continuous improvement and strategic planning.
