MASHUMI JOINS RANGERS
MBABANE – Former Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Vice President, Mashumi Shongwe, has rejoined Rangers at directorship level.
This was revealed by the club’s Head of Marketing, Mlungisi ‘Mluga’ Ndzinisa, during the Eswatini Broadcasting Information Services (EBIS) Sports Show hosted by Siphesihle ‘Sihlabane’ Nxumalo, yesterday. Ndzinisa noted that Shongwe brings a wealth of knowledge that will propel the club in their desired direction, particularly in light of their 2024/25 mandate.
Directorship
The Shiselweni-based outfit held a workshop on Friday, during which Shongwe’s reintroduction to the club’s directorship was among the key proceedings. During the workshop, Ndzinisa highlighted that Shongwe was able to share valuable insights, discussing the importance of owning one’s designated position and the ability to excel in their duties within the club.
“The supporters know Shongwe; he has been with the club before and they recognise his capabilities. As Rangers, we are happy with the lessons we have learned and those we will continue to learn from him,” said Ndzinisa.
In addition to his role with Rangers, Shongwe has served as the Mayor of Nhlangano and has had a stint as Chairman of the Shiselweni Football Association. Ndzinisa was also contacted by this publication seeking further clarity on the reinstatement of the former mayor and his perceived areas of influence to elevate the team to greater heights. He spoke about Shongwe’s administrative abilities and their significance in helping the team achieve their goal of competing for at least one cup tournament and securing a top-four finish in the MTN Premier League of Eswatini (PLE). “The elders of the club were clear in stating that we should move away from the mentality of merely dodging relegation and instead, challenge for honours,” he remarked.
Trimmed
Ndzinisa noted that this was evident during the 8Bet-sponsored Trade Fair Cup, where the team demonstrated their competitive spirit but, due to fatigue and a trimmed squad, were eliminated by the eventual winners, Young Buffaloes. Rangers’ most recent league encounter was against the army side, which ended in a 1-0 defeat before the international break. It is important to mention that the first round of the league concludes in six match days upon the return of the league this weekend. In their seven league encounters thus far, the Shiselweni-based outfit have won three, lost three and drawn one, accumulating a total of 10 points and currently sitting in sixth place on the log standings. Meanwhile, as action returns this weekend, according to the master fixture, Rangers is set to face current log leaders, Mbabane Swallows.
