SIHLANGU BONUSES FOR LAST 5 GAMES SURGE TO OVER E200K
MBABANE – Former Sihlangu assistant coach, Velekhaya Mthethwa feels optimistic Sihlangu can get better results.
Mthethwa said this in his predictions ahead of the clash today. Assistant Coach, Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane leads a 20-man squad set to face Mali in a ‘dead-rubber’. The much-anticipated clash is set for 6pm at Stade de 26 Mars in Bamako. This will serve as the last qualifier match, with Sihlangu fighting for pride. Their chances of securing a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be staged in Morocco appear to be dashed. They have earned two points in five games before the test against Eagles as Mali are affectionately known.
“Psychologically, Sihlangu are currently in an upper form than normal. We can expect better results, being a win or draw. However, that will depend on the coaches’ approach and proper planning. In contrast, Mali are a football powerhouse, so we can expect the game to be tricky,” he said.
Outing
In their last outing, Sihlangu faced Guinea-Bissau at the Mbombela Stadium, where they managed to secure a 1-1 draw. Philane Mkhonto gave Eswatini hope with a late goal, capitalising on a rebound after his missed penalty. On the other hand, Mali comes into this match with a strong sense of purpose. Currently leading Group I with 11 points, they require just a single point to confirm their status as group winners. Their recent form has been impressive, highlighted by a narrow 1-0 victory over Mozambique, where Kamory Doumbia’s goal proved decisive. Since their quarter-final exit to Ivory Coast earlier this year, Mali have been unbeaten in eight of their last nine matches across all competitions, showcasing their resilience and determination as they aim to finish 2024 on a high note.
In addition, following their flawless run in both the AFCON and CHAN qualifiers, Sihlangu players will strike it rich. Reports suggest that a mouth-watering package of E220 000 in bonuses is guaranteed to the players. Sihlangu players have done exceptionally well in their last five games, recording two draws, two wins and losing one game. The national team players are entitled to match bonuses for every win or draw. Reports suggest that for a win, they are entitled to E3 000 each. Meanwhile, a draw guarantees each player E1 500. If Sihlangu win or draw today, their bounty will increase.
