PLE SET TO REVIVE U-17, 19 LEAGUES
MBABANE – The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has successfully concluded its Executive Committee Corporate Governance Workshop, during which the revival of the Under-17 and Under-19 leagues emerged as a key topic of discussion.
An official post on the PLE’s Facebook page confirmed the commitment to reviving these junior leagues. “Among the key priorities identified was the revival of the Under-17 and Under-19 tournaments, aimed at nurturing young talent and creating pathways for players to ascend to the Premier League,” the post stated. Furthermore, the PLE Executive Committee (EXCO) underscored the importance of introducing additional developmental tournaments to provide young players with opportunities to refine their skills and progress within the sport.
Sponsored
Previously, the Under-17 league was known as the Esibayeni Lodge Under-17 league, sponsored by Esibayeni Lodge. The Under-19 league, which was formerly called the PLE Reserve league before being renamed, was solely sponsored by the PLE, with champions receiving a prize of E12 000. As the PLE EXCO workshop concluded yesterday, the day was dedicated to strategic planning for the next four years. The EXCO outlined short-term, mid-term and long-term goals to guide the league’s future direction. “Additional goals include the implementation of effective communication strategies to enhance engagement with stakeholders and fans,” the post continued.
Focus
A significant focus was also placed on resource mobilisation and the rebranding of the PLE, stemming from the recognition that a stronger brand identity is critical in attracting sponsorships and enabling the league to host more tournaments. In conclusion, it was highlighted that the workshop represented a transformative journey, laying the groundwork for a sustainable and prosperous future for the PLE. Meanwhile, the list of players to have benefitted from these development leagues is extensive, with notable names like Leon Manyisa of Mbabane Swallows, Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala also from Swallows and Sibahle Dlamini trading under Mbabane Highlanders this season.
