SWALLOWS HIT WITH E40K FINE
MBABANE – The red and white capital city giants Mbabane Swallows have been slapped with a hefty E40 000 fine following the chaos that erupted during their game against Green Mamba, last month.
The ‘Birds’, whose recent internal strife has been in the spotlight, have been found guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct. This follows an attack on a Green Mamba official, Lawrence ‘Tsiki Tsiki’Mncina, by the home fans as he walked along the synthetic track in front of their stand. Police officers were stretched to the limit in a bid to restore order, with a bruised Mncina needing urgent medical attention. Swallows won 1-0. However, recent reports from the ‘Umkhonto KaShaka’ camp reveal that on Tuesday evening, Swallows faced a significant setback.
The team appeared before the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Disciplinary Committee (DC) chaired by Thulani Sibandze, where they were slapped with a hefty E40 000 fine for their unsporting behaviour during their match against ‘Inyoka eluhlazane’.
Some of the charges against the Caleb Ngwenya side, according to the Premier League rules, include violations of Article 7.1(d), which prohibits uttering derogatory words towards anyone at a stadium. This article states that the use of provocative or insulting gestures or signals, unbecoming behaviour, or attempts to bring football into disrepute can result in a minimum fine of E25 000. The action is also against Article 7.1(g), which addresses the failure to control fans.
Meanwhile, the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Petros ‘Pat’ Vilakati, confirmed to this publication that Swallows were fined E40 000, with E20 000 suspended on condition that Swallows do not commit a similar offence in the remaining games of the season. In addition, the Swallows management was reportedly still in negotiations with their players to honour their game against Rangers tomorrow. This was after the team was reported to the Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration Commission (CMAC) over unpaid salaries. Swallows Public Relations Officer Knowledge ‘Bambo’ Ngwenya confirmed that they have received the charge sheet from the PLE.
