ESWATINI AIMS FOR 2028 PARALYMPICS PARTICIPATION
MBABANE – The Eswatini Paralympic Committee says they are looking towards participating in the next global event as they have long been ineligible to do so.
This was said by the committee’s President, Mcebo Mdluli, yesterday during a Disability Sports Day hosted by the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC).
The event took place at Lobamba Technical Centre, which began with a march from the same venue. “There has been no local Paralympic committee and just because it now exists, we’re doing preparations to be part of the 2028 Paralympic Games that will be held in the United States of America,” Mdluli said. Los Angeles, California will host the 2028 Paralympic Games, which will take place from August 15 to 27, 2028.
Meanwhile, ESRC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Darius Dlomo, said the sports day aimed to ensure that deaf individuals are included in sports. Dlomo described it as a Shukuma event for people with disabilities, emphasising that sports are for all. Both were speaking with Eswatini Television (TV) news yesterday. However, there were a number of games featured yesterday in celebration of this sports day, including basketball, tennis, soccer and netball among others.
