MNZ SUNDOWNS ENTERPRISING MIDFIELDER BRANKINOS OFF TO INDIA
MBABANE - Denver Sundowns’ exciting and nimble-footed midfielder, Tony Brankinos, departed for India on Thursday.
The playmaker is set to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance at Apeejay Stya University, marking a significant transition from the football pitch to the classroom.
Brankinos, who has been a standout player for Sundowns, earned himself the Man of the Match award in the last league encounter against Manzini Wanderers at Somhlolo National Stadium. This was after he scored a brace in the game that ended with his team winning 4-2. Despite the victory, Sundowns were relegated and Brankinos did not leave the side. He scored in their recent 2-1 victory over Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows. It was a fitting farewell for the midfielder, who has been a vital part of Sundowns since joining the club in 2017.
Speaking about his departure, Brankinos expressed gratitude towards The ‘Kappa Boys’ as Sundowns are fondly known and the unwavering support from its fans. “Thank you Denver Sundowns. It’s been a great experience representing the big brand. I learnt a lot in football since I joined. Thank you for the undying support from the yellow family on and off the field. I’m a grown man now because of the platform that was given to me to showcase my talent,” he stated. As Brankinos embarks on this new academic journey, he reflected on his time at Sundowns with fondness. His three-year commitment to studying in India will undoubtedly shape his future, both as a player and as an individual. “I will be furthering my studies overseas for a period of three years. I wish you nothing but the best of luck in the upcoming seasons,” he added. Following his departure, the team will be boosted by their under-20 striker, Ayababaza Gama, as confirmed on their official social media page. “The yellow family would like to wish Brankinos the best and also ask for God’s protection as he left for India to pursue his studies,” their statement read. His ability to weave through defences and create scoring opportunities will be sorely missed.
