‘URGENT NEED FOR BOXING DEVELOPMENT’
MBABANE – The Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA) Development Officer, Maxwell Ngwenya, has highlighted a significant deficiency in the development of the sport within the country.
Speaking during the Eswatini TV mid-day news bulletin, Ngwenya addressed the pressing challenges confronting the association under the leadership of Webster Lukhele, who was re-elected unopposed at the recent annual general meeting.
Success
Ngwenya emphasised that development is crucial for the success of any sport and must be prioritised across all sporting codes. “We are encountering serious obstacles in the development of boxing here, as our clubs are neglecting this vital component of the sport,” he stated. He proposed that the association implement a policy mandating each boxing club to establish grassroots programmes aimed at elevating the sport. “We need to set long-term development goals. Additionally, one of our major hurdles is the scarcity of female boxers.”
