WE’LL HONOUR MATCH WITH DIGNITY – ‘BIRDS’ SIZA
MBABANE - Despite encountering recent upheavals, including a player strike and ownership disputes, Mbabane Swallows have pledged to honour their forthcoming match against Nsingizini Hotspurs on Sunday.
The team was excused from their MTN Premier League fixture against Royal Leopard, last week, amid the escalating tensions within the club. Players had escalated the matter to the Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration Commission (CMAC) after going unpaid for two months, prompting the Acting President, Absalom ‘Mvana’ Ngwenya, to declare unworkable conditions. This led the management committee (MC), chaired by Welile Mabuza, to return the team to Princess Lungile. In a press conference held at the Thokoza Church Centre, the princess’s faction refused to take over the team, citing its significant debts. Following intervention from the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), the original MC regained ownership.
Reassured
During the MTN Premier League pre-match briefing, Swallows’ Physical Trainer Siza ‘King Pele’ Dlamini reassured supporters that the team would approach the match with dignity.
“I want to assure our supporters that we will honour this match with dignity; they should not be worried about our absence from training, as we have simply changed our training base,” Dlamini stated. The former Jomo Cosmos striker acknowledged the challenges faced by the team, but emphasised that the players were back in training and eager to compete.
He did express concern about the players’ current fitness levels, given the recent disruptions.
“It is very expensive to hire a psychologist, but we told them to man-up and fight as we are breadwinners for our families,” Dlamini added. Meanwhile, Insingizi Yezulu Head Coach Alexio Sigion expressed anticipation for the match, stating that their primary objective is to win the league. “We had a bad day in the office against Green Mamba, and now we are facing the champions, which means it is going to be a tough match,” he said. He stressed that they would not underestimate Swallows despite their recent challenges.
