I WON’T COME TO MEET PATRONS - ALLY
MBABANE – Capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders Managing Director, Chief Ally Kgomongwe, has reiterated his position that he will not travel to Eswatini to meet with the club’s patrons.
The South African businessman and politician insists the patrons must come to him in Pretoria, where he is open to discussing the future of the team. Kgomongwe claims the patrons have overstepped their authority by appointing a management committee without his consent. “I want the patrons to prove that they can lead the team. They took the team away from me. I can proudly say that Mbabane Highlanders FC is my company,” he declared. He also disclosed his earlier intention to purchase the now-defunct Tambuti, which have since been acquired by Premier League of Eswatini Chairman Polycarp Dlamini, who rebranded it as Ezulwini United. “The patrons requested that I should not buy Tambuti and they wanted me to take full control of Highlanders. I then registered it as a company,” Kgomongwe explained.
Regret
He expressed regret to the club’s owner, Rudolf Matsenjwa, for disappointing him by not accepting his offer to purchase the club. Kgomongwe vehemently denied allegations of neglecting the team’s welfare, asserting that supporters had been misled. “I am waiting for the patrons as I want emaSwati to know the truth,” he asserted. Kgomongwe emphasised that player’s strikes were unheard of during his six-year tenure as the club’s leader. “I suggested to the patrons that I would cover their travel and accommodation expenses, as well as provide some cash,” he added. Meanwhile, Thembinkosi Mamba, Chairman of the patrons, could not be reached for comment, as his phone rang unanswered at the time this report was compiled.
