RETURNING LOGARUSIC PICKS ‘ROMARIO’, ‘FELA’
MBABANE – Sihlangu Head Coach Zdravko Logarusic has awarded Bongiswa ‘Romario’ Dlamini, the goalkeeper for Mbabane Swallows, his inaugural call-up to the senior national team.
The promising shot-stopper has showcased impressive performances for his club and has previously donned the national colours at various youth levels, including the Under-23 squad.
Logarusic has also recalled Felix ‘Fela’ Badenhorst, the attacking midfielder from Royal Leopard, and included the in-form forward Sambulo ‘Masoso’ Simelane from Nsingizini Hotspurs in his 24-man roster.
Prepare
These players will enter camp this Sunday, as they prepare for the crucial African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Madagascar, later this month. Other noteworthy inclusions are Bongi ‘Karas’ Magagula from Swallows and Mzwandile Mabelesa, a centre-back from Royal Leopard. Additionally, Swallows’ right-back Philiso Newman has once again been selected. During a press conference at Sigwaca House in Mbabane, yesterday, Logarusic conveyed his commitment to guiding Sihlangu towards their first-ever appearance at the CHAN tournament.
He emphasised the importance of focusing on the upcoming qualifiers, rather than reflecting on past performances, notably mentioning that he was absent during the matches against Zimbabwe in the first round of the qualifiers. When asked about his future with Sihlangu, the former Zimbabwe national team coach adopted a pragmatic stance, asserting that he will approach his role as though he intends to remain in charge for the next decade.
Stressed
In discussing Dlamini’s inclusion, Logarusic noted the goalkeeper’s potential and stressed the significance of providing him the opportunity to acclimatise to the national team environment. The squad, captained by Sifiso ‘Ayoba’ Matse, is set to host Madagascar on December 21, at Mbombela Stadium, in South Africa, before travelling for the second leg on December 29, 2024. The victorious team will secure a place in the finals of the tournament scheduled for next year.
