MANZINI WANDERERS’ WAIT CONTINUES
MBABANE – It is official; Manzini Wanderers will not kick a ball this year as the court is yet to respond to their request for a hearing date regarding their ongoing legal battle.
The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has also confirmed that league games are currently on hold in respect of the national team, Sihlangu, which is in camp preparing for the back-to-back TotalEnergies African Nations Championships (CHAN) against Madagascar. An impeccable source close to the maroon and white giants revealed that the court has not responded to their request for a hearing date, which is crucial for their return to action following the High Court ruling on September 27, 2024. The ‘Weslians’ had approached the High Court registrar seeking a date for their legal dispute with Denver Sundowns and Moneni Pirates. The club had hoped for a swift resolution, ideally in January, to allow them to rejoin the league.
Survival
This sentiment was echoed by a Wanderers legal representative, who confirmed: “We are still waiting for a date from the Chief Justice’s office.” Wanderers are fighting for their survival after finding themselves in the relegation zone last season. They lodged a protest against Sundowns’ Skipper, Jimoh Moses, claiming he played without a valid work permit during their match at Somhlolo National Stadium, which Sundowns won 4-2. The EFA Disciplinary Committee (DC) and Appeals Board dismissed their claims. However, High Court Judge Mumcy Dlamini overturned these decisions.
