EZULWINI UNITED’S BHEKANI WINS LAST 2024 ‘Y’ELLO’ POM

MBABANE - In a three-horse race for the MTN Premier League December Player of the Month award, Ezulwini United striker Bhekani Mthembu emerged as the winner.

Mthembu was announced as the winner yesterday, during a ceremony held at Sigwaca House in the morning. Revealing the winners was the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Brand and Marketing Officer, Lindokuhle Mthupha. Mthupha disclosed the names of the three players who were shortlisted by the Awards Committee.

Influential

She said the committee reported that the trio, including those from the National First Division (NFD), were influential in their teams’ two games played and considered for this award.In the top flight, Illovo’s Gcina Mkholo came third, while Nsingizini Hotspurs’ attacker, Sizwe ‘Yeki’ Khumalo, attained the second spot. Meanwhile, Mthembu won for being influential in his team’s wins against Sisonkhe and Madlenya. United won 5-1 and 7-0, respectively. “Against Sisonkhe, I was able to assist three goals and score one, and against Madlenya, I also provided three assists, although I didn’t score,” Mthembu said.

The striker also thanked the entire team for their support, stating that it would have been impossible without teamwork. He promised that he and the team would continue working hard to ease any relegation threats in the league. With this award, he registered his name in the list of contenders for the E15 000 Player of  the Season race. However, for his achievement, he is guaranteed E6 000. Meanwhile, in the lower division, Magwanyana’s Captain Lucky Dlamini was named the fourth winner of the monthly award. Dlamini also entered his name in the race for NFD Player of the Season candidates and is guaranteed E2 000 for his accomplishment. He thanked everyone who contributed to his success, saying they are fighting for a top-four finish. The top contenders included Tambankulu Celtics’ Zweli Sihlongonyane and Njabulo Magongo of Amawele.
