AMID POWER STRUGGLE ... ‘BULL’ SEEK PLE INTERVENTION
MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders Interim Committee yesterday had a caucus with the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) over the ongoing state of affairs in the club.
This happened before the closure of the PLE offices. They met the executive. It was a closed-door meeting, with the agenda not revealed to the media. Meanwhile, Highlanders Patrons Chairman, Thembinkosi Mamba confirmed they sent a delegation to meet the executive. Mamba said the purpose of the meeting was to officially report their challenges to the Polycarp Dlamini-led organisation. “It was just a matter of making them aware of our problems, which are well-known. We are not, however, in a position to disclose our discussions to the public, as we are still waiting for the PLE to respond to us,” Mamba said.
Confirmed
Meanwhile, Acting PLE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pat Vilakati also confirmed the meeting, saying they met the patrons as concerned elders of the team. “We just met them as requested. Perhaps we could assist with some of the issues they raised.“The meeting, however, was not in disrespect of the existing structure of the team,” he said. Vilakati stressed that there was no hidden agenda, as they did with other teams. According to a well-placed source within the black and white, the meeting was centred around discussions on a way forward pending the existing power struggle in the team. Worth noting is that the interim committee was appointed to run the team amid the existing leadership of the team’s South African Managing Director (MD) and businessman, Chief Ally Kgomongwe.
Kgomongwe has been unable to meet both the patrons and PLE after being requested by both parties for a meeting at the height of this conflict. He, however, stressed his willingness to meet all stakeholders. The five-member interim leadership was appointed on November 18, 2024, with Kgomongwe taking charge of the team back in 2019. Reached for comment yesterday, Kgomongwe briefly urged the patrons to follow the right channel and leave the PLE alone.
Discuss
He said they must discuss with him any issues of the team as the owner of Mbabane Highlanders company. It is worth mentioning also that last month; the PLE was able to successfully resolve a governance issue at Highlanders’ cross-town rivals, Mbabane Swallows. Swallows equally have internal struggles of their own regarding change of management.
After a meeting with the PLE, a compromise was reached.
