AE WELL AHEAD OF DOPING – PRESIDENT
MBABANE - The Athletics Eswatini (AE) is well ahead in preventing the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
This was disclosed by AE President, Zakhele Dlamini, says they have advanced strategies and programmes to safeguard against any chance of doping. Dlamini refuted earlier reports expressing fears of doping in local athletics, clarifying that the comment was not specific to athletics. He stressed that doping could occur in any sport, but AE has signatories of international anti-doping charters.
Critical
Over the past weekend, the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA), during its Annual General Assembly (AGM), reported that they have rolled out critical projects and activities in anti-doping. These included training of 12 officers and testing several elite athletes ahead of the Paris 2024 Games, with none testing positive. The EOCGA urged associations to continue with anti-doping awareness programmes.
Reacting to the report, Eswatini Cycling Association (ESA) representative at the AGM and also of Gooden Football Athletics Club secretary, Gedion Mthembu, commended the efforts and encouraged the EOCGA to conduct random tests during national competitions as well, as there could be athletes who win using performance enhancements.
