MBABANE - SuperSport United is said to be eyeing Sihlangu stars Thubelihle Mavuso and Bongi ‘Karas’ Magagula as potential signings during the upcoming January transfer window.

Sources close to the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that Nsingizini Hotspurs’ Mavuso and Mbabane Swallows’ ‘karas’ are likely to undergo an assessment with Pretoria-based SuperSport United after talks between the teams were facilitated by KYRO Sports Agency. The players, who are both left wingers, reportedly caught the attention of SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt, who is keen on assessing their abilities in person. “As an intermediary, I can confirm that Gavin Hunt, head coach of SuperSport United, is seeking to sign a new left winger during the January registration period.

“He has expressed interest in evaluating the skills of Eswatini’s Thubelihle Mavuso and Bongi Magagula, who are expected to undergo assessments with the club. The outcome of these assessments will be crucial in determining whether either player will be offered a contract with SuperSport United. The coach will be closely monitoring their performances to determine if they have the potential to fill the left wing position in the team,” the source said.

Surprise

In a recent interview, Mhlonishwa Shiba, director of KYRO Sports Agency, expressed surprise at how this news had reached the media, confirming that while the information was still fresh, it was indeed accurate. According to Shiba, SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt, had contacted the agency in search of a skilled left winger from Eswatini. The agency identified Thubelihle Mavuso and Bongi Magagula as potential candidates and is now arranging for their assessments with the South African team. “Our agency is aiming to coordinate their assessments with SuperSport United following the conclusion of the CHAN qualifying matches between Sihlangu and Madagascar.

“Our primary goal is to secure at least one player a contract with the South African team, with the possibility of a loan arrangement for the other player. We are confident in the abilities of both Mavuso and Magagula and believe that they have the potential to excel at the highest levels of football. Our focus is on facilitating their assessments and ensuring that they receive the opportunities they deserve,” he said.

Potential

Nsingizini Hotspurs Chief Executive Officer Banele Ngobe, confirmed that he was in attendance at the launch event for KYRO Sports Agency, but he added that he needed to consult with the club president to verify whether there had been any discussions regarding Mavuso’s potential assessment with SuperSport United. Ngobe emphasised that, while he could not immediately confirm any such discussions, he would make every effort to obtain further information from the club’s leadership to determine the validity of the reports.

“Our club is committed to supporting our players in achieving their career goals and aspirations. If any of our players receive an offer to play abroad or attend an assessment with a prestigious club, we will not hinder their progress. However, with regards to the reported interest from SuperSport United in Thubelihle Mavuso, I cannot confirm this information at this time. I intend to verify the situation with the club president to obtain a clearer understanding of any potential discussions that may have occurred,” he said. Confirming the reports, Swallows team Chairman Welile Mabuza affirmed that an official from KYRO Sports Agency had indeed contacted the team regarding a potential assessment opportunity for their player, Magagula.

Supportive

“As a club, we are fully supportive of any opportunities that may arise for our players to further their careers and showcase their talents. We are more than willing to provide Karas with the opportunity to attend an assessment with SuperSport, as long as we are given a confirmed date for the trial. We believe that these experiences are vital for our players’ growth and development and, if successful, could result in life-changing opportunities for them,” Mabuza stated. Meanwhile, the Sports Agency officially launched its operations at the Hilton Garden Inn, last week Tuesday, an event that garnered considerable attention from key figures in the sports community.

Among the notable attendees were Darius Dlomo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC), Muzi ‘Rhoo’ Radebe, the Marketing and Communications Officer of the Eswatini Football Association (EFA), and Pat Vilakati, the Acting CEO of the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE). They were joined by Acting Football Manager Banele Masondo and representatives from various local teams.Should the two players eventually join SuperSport, they would follow in the footsteps of Mbabane Swallows veteran winger Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze, former Green Mamba and Red Lions striker Phinda Dlamini, and former Sihlangu international and Manzini Wanderers midfield maestro Dennis ‘Yuki’ Masina.
