MB. SWALLOWS, MALANTI CHIEFS DOMINATE 2024 POM AWARDS
MBABANE - The capital city giants, Mbabane Swallows and Malanti Chiefs, have emerged as the leading producers of players of the month (POM) in this concluding year.
Swallows have excelled in the MTN Premier League POM awards, contributing three players in 2024. Similarly, Malanti Chiefs matched this achievement in the National First Division (NFD) with an equal number of players. The ‘Birds’ celebrated their striker, Ayanda Gadlela, who was named the 2023/24 MTN Premier League Player of the Month for April. In a remarkable follow-up, former Swallows midfielder Neliswa ‘Tiger’ Dlamini secured the award in May, bringing the season to a close on a high note.
Accolade
However, from September, winger Bongi ‘Karas’ Magagula stands as the sole representative from ‘Umkhonto KaShaka’ among the four players who have claimed the accolade thus far.
On a different note, Malanti Chiefs celebrated their sharpshooter, Nkosiphile Dlamini, who was recognised as the outstanding player in the lower division in February. This season, the duo of striker Sibonelo Myaba and goalkeeper Bongiswa ‘Khune’ Dlamini also clinched the award in September and November, respectively. It is noteworthy that the winners in the top-flight league received a prize of E6 000, while those in the lower division were awarded E2 000 for their monthly achievements. All players were automatically entered as contenders for the Player of the Season accolade, making this a highly competitive environment.
