‘BIRDS’ AWAIT PLE’S PEACE LETTER TO SETTLE SALARIES
MBABANE - City giants Mbabane Swallows allege that the club was anticipating a letter of peace from the PLE office to resolve outstanding salaries.
The reigning champions of the MTN Premier League, Swallows, are grappling with a dire financial situation concerning player remuneration. Reports indicate that players have gone without pay for the past two months, with their last payment in September amounting to only half of their salaries. Swallows’ Acting President, Absalom Ngwenya, has reportedly stated that the club lacks the funds to settle these debts, a claim made during a hearing at the Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration Commission (CMAC) last month.
This revelation was made by the Swallows Public Relations Officer (PRO) PRO Knowledge ‘Bhambo’ Ngwenya, during yesterday’s Sports Show programme on Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS), hosted by Siphesihle ‘Sihlabani’ Nxumalo. “The internal problems of Mbabane Swallows FC and Mbabane Swallows (PTY) LTD are still continuing and it’s very sad. “After the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) was the mediator in our issues with the other fraction, the solution from that meeting was that the old management committee should continue. Early this month we had our first meeting and our first agenda was the issue of salaries,” he said.

In an attempt to assuage the concerns of potential sponsors, Ngwenya stressed the importance of securing a letter of peace from PLE as a means to restore confidence and convince sponsors of the club’s renewed stability. “We wrote them a letter and unfortunately when we wrote the letter, they said we shouldn’t be the ones writing it but the mediator, which is the PLE. They said the PLE should be the ones writing the assurance letter that things are now normal,” Ngwenya added. He said they went to the PLE office to request the assurance letter, but unfortunately they did not receive it. Ngwenya highlighted that this has stopped everything, including the players’ salaries. “To this day, the players, staff and management haven’t received their salaries,” he said. When approached for comment on the matter, Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the PLE Pat ‘Kungumusa’ Vilakati, declined to provide any insights.
