MBABANE – Former Moneni Pirates Head Coach Christopher Ennin disclosed that his decision to resign was a direct result of receiving a call from the club’s president.

This publication exclusively broke the story yesterday in our sister publication, the Times of Eswatini, that the former ‘Sea Robbers’ of Moneni gaffer, who joined the club at the beginning of August, shockingly resigned from his position. The team, in a reportedly joint statement, indicated that the Ghanaian-born coach left the country on Sunday last week, to attend to a pressing family emergency. Upon further assessment of the situation, he discovered that resolving the matter would require his extended attention and presence. As such, he has formally tendered his resignation from his role as head coach of Moneni Pirates.

However, in a sudden twist, reports from Ghana shared that he was poised to return to the Ghanaian Premier League, where he is set to join Samartex FC on a two-year contract. This proved to be true after the club announced him on their Facebook page yesterday morning. “Chris is our man. We are delighted to confirm that Christopher Ennin has agreed to become the club’s new head coach,” reads part of the club statement.

Decision

In an exclusive interview, the former Mbabane Swallows coach provided insight into his decision to abruptly leave Pirates. Ennin explained that Samartex FC, his newly-appointed club, held a special place in his heart and he could not resist the opportunity to join them when their President Richard Nsenkyire, reached out with an offer. According to Ennin, Samartex is a team he has always admired. “We are poised to unveil a revamped Samartex, and we urge our supporters to turn out in force, thereby facilitating a change in the team’s performance,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Timber Giants owner expressed confidence in the positive impact that Ennin’s arrival will have on the team’s morale. In a statement, Nsenkyire affirmed that the meeting between the coach and the players will be an inspiring and confidence-boosting experience. “Ennin’s presence as our new coach will lift the spirits of our players and give them the motivation they need to take on any challenge. We are confident that with his guidance, we will reach new heights as a team,” he shared.

Finals

His tenure at Pirates began positively, taking the team to the finals of the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup, where they narrowly lost to Young Buffaloes. At the time of his departure, the team was positioned fifth in the league, accumulating 18 points, only seven points behind the log leaders, Royal Leopard, who sit on 25 points. In a bid to fill the coaching vacancy promptly, Moneni Pirates are reportedly considering two potential candidates: The departing Mbabane Swallows Coach Caleb ‘No Nonsense’ Ngwenya and former Pirates Coach Ikabort Masocha.
Ennin boasts a wealth of experience, holding a CAF A Licence and other coaching qualifications from Thailand. He also possesses a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Cape Coast University.
