‘NO SALARY CONCERNS FOR ‘WESLIANS’ PLAYERS’

MBABANE – In stark contrast to their fellow ‘Big 3’ counterparts, who are grappling with delayed salary payments, Manzini Wanderers have reportedly consistently fulfilled their financial obligations.

Capital city clubs Highlanders and Swallows have each fallen behind for over two months, failing to meet their contractual commitments. The Management Committee (MC) Chairman of the beleaguered Wanderers, Jabulani Dlamini, provided insight into their situation. “This is why we maintain a stable environment with our players; we have been paying them every month. Although it’s not always the full amount stipulated in their contracts, we recognise that they are human beings with responsibilities. It’s a challenging situation; I won’t lie, particularly due to the lack of incoming revenue, as we remain inactive. Just imagine if we were competing; would we still be unable to pay them their full salaries?” Dlamini stated.

However, he refrained from disclosing the club’s monthly wage bill. It is crucial to note that failure to pay contracted players could lead to clubs facing a mass exodus, as players may walk away as free agents if unpaid for two months or more. Additionally, the club could face sporting sanctions. The ‘Weslians’ last participated in an MTN League match on May 19, 2024, and their most recent official engagement was on September 1 against Nsingizini in the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup. Currently, they remain inactive amid an ongoing relegation battle that has escalated into legal proceedings. “We will resume training on January 2 in preparation for all upcoming tournaments, including the league.

All players are expected to report for training as we have retained them. We are aware that some teams are attempting to poach our players, but we urge them to cease such actions immediately,” he added. Dlamini emphasised that training will now be comprehensive, moving from the previous two or three-day sessions to a full five-day programme. With the final transfer window opening on January 8, 2025, he confirmed that they will be looking to strengthen their squad. The technical team remains unchanged, with veteran Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe still at the helm. As the maroon and white outfit await their fixtures, likely to be determined after the resolution of the relegation issue in court, they anticipate being back in action during the third week of the new year. That weekend will see the commencement of the Ingwenyama Cup, sponsored by the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF).
