SOME ‘BULL’ PLAYERS NOW MISS ALLY
MBABANE – In the wake of recent events, the parents of several players have taken the initiative to contact Mbabane Highlanders Director Ally Kgomongwe.
One of these parents is Sipho Shongwe, the father of young player Siwakhile, who reached out to Kgomongwe. When asked for comment yesterday about his discussion with Kgomongwe, Sipho explained: “It was nothing more than a reminder that he was the one who approached me for my son’s services. Initially, I hesitated because I felt that Siwakhile was still quite young, but he assured me that he would allow him to grow and be developed at Highlanders.”
The player’s father expressed his concerns, stating that if there were issues at Highlanders, he would appeal to Kgomongwe to either find his son another team or facilitate his return to Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows. Meanwhile, Kgomongwe responded, saying: “The players are beginning to regain their perspective and remember their roots. These individuals do not possess the players; they are my players, so any discussions about transfers should be directed to me, not other teams. I am receiving numerous calls from these players, and there are claims that we are being dishonest. One day, they will attend games without these players.”
He further asserted: “These are my players, and I acquired them with my own funds. Some of their parents entrusted me with their sons to join Highlanders, because they see that I pay my players. There have been claims that others (those trying to run Highlanders) do not compensate their players, which has led to departures. This situation serves as an opportunity for them to awaken to reality, and they have expressed their readiness; let us see if they truly are.” Kgomongwe’s astute leadership is also said to have caught the eye of Botswana Premiership side Extension Gunners. He shared that they had been attempting to recruit him for the past five years but he chose Highlanders. The seasoned football administrator is yet to make a decision regarding the said interest.
