SWALLOWS CLASH OVER SPONSORSHIP SABOTAGE

MBABANE – Drama!

This is after Mbabane Swallows Public Relations Officer (PRO), Knowledge ‘Bhambo’ Ngwenya, allegedly revealed that some Mbabane Swallows (PTY) LTD board members were blocking the team from getting sponsors. Addressing the media at the club’s offices in Mbabane, the Umkhonto KaShaka PRO sought to put an end to the serious allegations that had been circulating regarding Swallows PTY LTD’s alleged interference in the management of the team. In his statement, Ngwenya emphasised the need to stop the spread of these allegations and to focus on finding constructive solutions to the issues at hand.

“There is a member from Mbabane Swallows (PTY) Ltd going around the social media groups asking the supporters to come into the club offices to take control of the team by force as it has been proven that the team is poor with the players still being owed for many months, while we have not denied that, as Swallows management we are in need of sponsors,” he said.

Ngwenya went on to express his deep concern about reports of members from Mbabane Swallows (PTY) LTD approaching potential sponsors that the team was in discussions with, attempting to dissuade them from investing in the club. This alleged sabotage, he asserted, is jeopardising the team’s ability to secure critical funding and, ultimately, to ensure that the players are fairly compensated. “This then gives us the impression of what the real aim of the other faction, if they are doing this by making sure that the team does not do well or making sure that the team dies in our hands and be seen like we have failed to run the team but we should be one family,” he added.

He said when a board member of Swallows PTY goes to the supporters and tells them to act in such a manner, it then means that they are not even safe in stadiums and the players are not safe, which then gives them a challenge. “This is the reason why we have come here today and ask that those individuals going behind our backs to stop doing that,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Mbabane Swallows (PTY) LTD, Bongani Dlamini, categorically denied all allegations levelled against them. “These allegations are unfounded and untrue, we are deeply dismayed by the efforts of certain parties to cast aspersions on our integrity and professionalism.
“We are fully committed to the success and well-being of the club and its players, and we take these allegations very seriously. We have always been transparent and open in our dealings with the management committee, and we will continue to work collaboratively with them to ensure the club’s continued growth and development,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mbabane Swallows resolved last month to reinstate its original management committee. The meeting, mediated by the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), convened the factions to seek a definitive resolution to their protracted deadlock. This discord emerged when the original committee, led by Acting President Absalom Ngwenya, resigned and surrendered the team to the Princess Lungile faction, who subsequently rejected it. The princess voiced concerns on national radio regarding the team’s financial woes, asserting that they could not accept a team burdened with debts exceeding E2 million. She elaborated that the club had been debt-free when transferred to the original committee.
