SA, ZIM KARATE ARTISTS FOR GASHUKU CAMP

MBABANE – Eswatini is set to host a Gashuku camp, an important training event that will welcome participants from South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The camp is scheduled for March 28, 2025, as confirmed by the newly-appointed Branch Chief of the World All Kyokushin Karate Union (WAKKU), Sensei Obed Sifiso Magaia. As the host nation, the WAKKU branch chief indicated that preparations are underway to secure the most suitable venue for this significant event. Notably, this marks the first Gashuku camp of its kind in Eswatini, as prior camps have predominantly featured local participants, with international involvement limited to competition settings. “It’s a two-day Gashuku Camp and we are still going to confirm the venue,” stated Magaia. He underscored the importance of this training camp in preparing athletes for international competitions, particularly as they have identified an upcoming competition in Germany.

“It will help us to prepare for the 2026 World Cup WAKKU tournament, which is to be held in Germany,” he revealed. Meanwhile, training camps that invite international participation have been hosted across the globe in countries such as Japan, the United States and Brazil. These camps not only promote international camaraderie, but also enhance the skills of athletes by exposing them to diverse training techniques and philosophies. Participants benefit from collaborating with peers from different backgrounds, enabling them to learn new techniques and strategies that may not be available in their home countries. Furthermore, the experience offers insights into varied cultures, contributing to personal growth and a broader understanding of the sport on a global scale. Such camps also create opportunities for athletes to forge relationships with fellow competitors and coaches, potentially leading to future collaborations and competitions.
