‘INGWE’ PREY ON E100K ‘CARROT’
MBABANE – Royal Leopard’s fortunes glimmered over the weekend, as they secured the MTN Premier League first-round ‘carrot’ prize on better goal difference.
This draw allowed the Edwin Matsebula-led side to claim the E100 000 prize after the match against fellow hopefuls Royal Leopard that ended in a goalless draw and attracted over 400 supporters. The outcome ensured that Leopard maintained their position at the top of the table with 29 points, while Green Mamba remained in second place, also on 29 points, but with a superior goal difference. Moneni Pirates, under the guidance of their newly-appointed Coach, Caleb Ngwenya, achieved a pivotal 1-0 victory against Rangers FC in a rain-drenched encounter at the Mavuso Sports Centre.

In another match, Mbabane Highlanders managed to turn around their recent dismal form, triumphing 2-1 against Ezulwini United, thus lifting themselves out of the relegation zone after a prolonged struggle. In contrast, defending champions Mbabane Swallows were compelled to accept a 1-1 draw against Illovo in a gripping match at the Mkhuzweni Technical Centre.
This stalemate not only extinguished Swallows’ aspirations of securing three points, but also led to a downturn in their league standing, dropping them to fifth place in the table.
With rival teams gaining momentum and Swallows experiencing a dip in form, the competition for the top position is set to become even more fiercely-contested as the season unfolds.
