‘BIRDS’ EDGE ‘BULL’ IN SITHOLE RACE
MBABANE – With the excitement surrounding the January transfer window, Mbabane Swallows have reportedly completed their first signing to secure the services of Menzi Sithole. The transfer was confirmed yesterday by Royal Leopard’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Frank Hurube. Sithole has spent the past season with Mbabane Highlanders, having been loaned from the police side. Despite interest from both Swallows and Highlanders, the player has opted to return to the former. In recent weeks, transfer reports regarding Sithole’s potential move to either of the two city giants had circulated, but these were clarified by Hurube. He stated that the player and the manager of Swallows met at the club yesterday morning to discuss contractual agreements, leading to Sithole’s decision to rejoin Swallows. “What I can confirm is that the player came with Swallows’ manager, where agreements were reached regarding the player joining Swallows,” Hurube said.
understanding
Hurube noted their longstanding relationship with Swallows and their understanding of the club’s current financial situation. “We will talk at the end of the season; otherwise, we have a good relationship with Swallows. However, we have certain agreements in place that I cannot disclose,” he added. Meanwhile, Mbabane Swallows’ PRO, Knowledge Ngwenya, could neither confirm nor deny Sithole’s signing. “I cannot confirm that now, but we have a meeting today (yesterday) at 6pm. We will then issue a statement about it,” Ngwenya highlighted.
Sithole previously left Highlanders during the 2020/21 season to join Mbabane Swallows for the first time, and he is now returning in the second round of the current season. During his time at Highlanders, under the guidance of Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane, he became the third player to depart the club, following the exits of South Africa-born midfielder Vusumuzi Zungu and striker Thabiso Mokoankane. It is also noteworthy that during that period, Highlanders offloaded several players, including Mphucuko ‘Smoothies’ Dlamini, Nkosinamandla Nkambule, Melusi Dlamini, Patrick Mashele and Punch Masenemela.
