MANZINI – The Minister for Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Bongani Nzima, has urged Manzini Wanderers supporters to attend forthcoming matches.
This appeal by the minister was made during the grand opening of the Ingwenyama Cup at Mavuso Sports Centre yesterday, which showcased a thrilling match between Mbabane Swallows and Ludzeludze Killers, alongside a performance by Mbabane Highlanders against Lozitha Spurs. “We extend our gratitude to the nation for supporting this tournament. The atmosphere and energy during the grand opening were invigorating, and the attendance reflects the public’s passion for the sport,” the minister remarked.

He highlighted the significance of football and culture in bolstering the economy.“The future of football looks promising, and we appreciate all stakeholders contributing to its development. We encourage Manzini Wanderers supporters to attend the Ingwenyama Cup, even if their team is not in action,” he added. The minister acknowledged that the ‘big three’ clubs continue to play a pivotal role in the growth of Eswatini football, noting the absence of Wanderers supporters at the event. In a related note, Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chairman Polycarp Dlamini expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s commencement.

“This tournament has delivered unexpected outcomes, showcasing that any team, regardless of division, is capable of competing fiercely for victory,” he stated. He also commended the impressive turnout and encouraged supporters to don their teams’ replicas to promote not only their clubs, but football as a whole. Dlamini further emphasised the passion of the fans and indicated plans to decentralise matches across the nation, ensuring that all regions have the opportunity to witness the games. Meanwhile, Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF) Board Chairman Zithulele Gina remarked on the tournament’s success. “We are here because of the people, and we are thrilled with the attendance. Our primary mandate, as highlighted during the launch, is to advocate for safe driving and reduce road accidents. This platform gathers thousands, allowing us to effectively communicate our message,” he concluded.
