‘WESLIANS’ SQUASH NFD REGISTRATION REPORTS

MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers Chairman Jabulani Dlamini has vehemently denied reports suggesting the team are considering registering in the MTN National First Division (NFD). According to a source close to the Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe-coached side, the management committee (MC) of the team was contemplating a move down to the second-tier of local football. “The team are considering registering with the National First Division as they are eager to play in the second round of the season,” the source said.
“These reports emerged following the club’s unsuccessful legal challenge against their exclusion from the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF)-sponsored Ingwenyama Cup.

Last Friday, High Court Judge Bongani S. Dlamini dismissed their application, finding that they had incorrectly cited the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Competitions Committee (CC) instead of the tournament’s management committee (MC), led by Hhohho Regional Football Association (HRFA) Chairman Dr Comfort Shongwe. The judge emphasised that the club would abide by the September 27, 2024 ruling by Judge Mumcy Dlamini, which ordered football authorities to review and set aside the EFA Appeals Board’s verdict. “We will never register as a First Division team,” Dlamini declared. He clarified that the suggestion of registering for the NFD was merely a tactic to ensure their participation in the Ingwenyama Cup.

flexible

“We informed them that we were willing to be flexible and register temporarily to participate in the tournament,” he explained. Judge Bongani further asserted that Wanderers remain fully registered with the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), having submitted all the necessary documentation. Despite these assurances, Wanderers’ exclusion from the Ingwenyama Cup remains a significant blow. This marks the first time since the tournament’s inception in 2015 that the ‘Weslians’ have not been included in the draw, a considerable disappointment for the club and its supporters. It is worth mentioning that the claims that Wanderers are registered with the PLE were dismissed by its legal representative Meluleki Ndlangamandla from MLK Ndlangamandla Attorneys in court last week.
