BIRDS, EZULWINI TUG OF WAR
MBABANE – Green Mamba attacking forward Kwenzokuhle ‘Ndoye’ Khumalo is caught up in an ownership battle.
The player has reportedly written to the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Players’ Status Committee (PSC) for intervention to allow him to register for a club of his choice.
‘Inyoka Eluhlazane’, as Green Mamba are fondly known, have released two players - the striker and left-back Mthunzi ‘Chippa’ Motsa.
They were placed on the transfer list, signalling the end of their stint with the team. Despite being granted the freedom to seek a new club of his choice, the striker has found himself entangled in a fierce battle for his services, with both Mbabane Swallows and Ezulwini United vying for his signature. Reports from reliable sources indicate that ‘Ndoye’ has already signed a contract with Swallows, while his parent team, Green Mamba, has allegedly agreed to loan the player to the ‘Stingers’ for the remainder of the season.
witness
“As an intrigued witness to this perplexing situation, I am struck by the convolution of Ndoye’s predicament. With the player currently registered with Ezulwini United on TMS, but unable to be registered with FIFA Connect due to a conflicting request from Mbabane Swallows, Green Mamba are facing a delicate balancing act,” the source said.
According to the source, it seems that to allow Ezulwini United to formally register Ndoye in FIFA Connect, Green Mamba must first reject Mbabane Swallows’ request for the player. “This crucial decision carries significant ramifications not only for Ndoye’s career, but also for the relationship between the teams involved, potentially stirring up tensions and muddying the already murky waters of the player transfer process,” the source added. When asked to comment on the situation, Nsindiso Tsabedze, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ezulwini United, emphasised the utmost respect his team hold for Green Mamba.
respect
“The player in question is, and remains, a Green Mamba player. Out of respect for our fellow team, we shall refrain from engaging in any discussions that could be perceived as disrespecting their position as the rightful owners of the player,” he said. Meanwhile, regarding the ongoing dispute over Ndoye, Mbabane Swallows’ Public Relations Officer (PRO), Knowledge ‘Bhambo’ Ngwenya, revealed that he is yet to receive a report from the team’s technical department on the matter. However, according to Green Mamba’s CEO, Mandla Sibiya, the team do not dictate which club their players choose to join. Instead, Sibiya indicated that ‘Ndoye’ initially expressed an interest in joining Ezulwini United.
Nonetheless, when other teams, notably Moneni Pirates and Mbabane Swallows, demonstrated interest in signing him, it appears that ‘Ndoye’ may have begun to consider other options.
tied
“Our hands are tied. The player later came back to us expressing his desire to join Mbabane Swallows instead. “We are currently awaiting guidance from the Players’ Status Committee on the appropriate course of action,” he said. Recent reports suggest that ‘Ndoye’ and Motsa were both present for training sessions with Mbabane Swallows earlier in the week. While Motsa’s status appears to have been resolved, with his transfer request approved by Green Mamba, Ndoye’s position remains less clear.
The complexities of the international football player transfer process are intricate and nuanced, necessitating the use of specialised digital platforms like TMS (Transfer Matching System) and FIFA Connect. These systems act as a virtual clearing house, facilitating the documentation, verification and approval of all player transfers, ensuring that clubs comply with FIFA regulations and prevent fraudulent or unauthorised player movement. The intricacies of player transfers and the challenges faced by teams in adhering to regulations, while also respecting the interests of players, have long been a source of controversy in the world of football. In 2017, for example, the case of Antoine Griezmann’s transfer from Atletico Madrid to FC Barcelona caused similar commotion. Initially, Griezmann was claimed to have agreed to a move to Barcelona, only for Atletico to release a statement refuting the claim and insisting on his contractual commitment to the Madrid-based club.
