‘SAVIOLA’ JOINS INGWENYAMA CUP SCORERS RACE
MBABANE – Young Buffaloes attacking midfielder Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze has propelled himself into contention for the top goalscorer title of the prestigious Ingwenyama Cup. The seasoned striker made his mark last Saturday at Mkhuzweni Technical Centre, where he netted a brilliant hat-trick in Buffaloes’ dominant 4-0 victory over National First Division (NFD) side Pigg’s Peak Rangers. This impressive performance has not only secured Buffaloes a place in the quarter-finals, but has also elevated Gamedze into the competitive top scorers’ race. The Ingwenyama Cup, sponsored by the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF), offers a tempting reward of E10 000 for the tournament’s leading goalscorer. Gamedze now joins the ranks alongside Mbabane Swallows’ Newman Philiso, who also impressed by scoring a brace in his side’s victory over CK Survivors at the Mavuso Sports Centre.
However, the competition is heating up as the race for the individual prize intensifies. Rangers’ captain Musa Dlamini, who had been leading the chart, has been overtaken by Manzini Sea Birds’ Muzi Tsabedze. Dlamini, who had three goals to his name, was recently sidelined due to a yellow card suspension, allowing Tsabedze to surge ahead. Tsabedze made a sensational statement this past weekend by a hat-trick against Nkwene Sundowns at the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium. This now makes him the new top scorer with four goals. The battle for the top spot is far from over, and with several players tied on three goals, every match will be crucial in determining who will claim the coveted title.
