‘RUBBER’ BACK AT HIGHLANDERS
MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders have reportedly re-engaged their former Managing Director, Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane, for a period of six months. This decision follows the recent termination of the contract of South African businessman and Managing Director, Ally Kgomongwe. A termination letter was dispatched, as confirmed by Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Musa Masuku, who indicated that Kgomongwe has been given seven days to return all team materials, tools and merchandise. Informed sources revealed that the club’s patrons convened on January 8 to deliberate and ultimately resolved to sever ties with Kgomongwe.
The letter addressed to Kgomongwe stated that the patrons, empowered by the club’s Constitution to negotiate and formalise management agreements, had met in Ezulwini, where they unanimously decided to rescind his contract. In a significant development, Highlanders have officially handed over control of the club to their former MD, Simelane. This unprecedented transfer of authority took place in the presence of passionate supporters at Bethel Court in Ezulwini, where the club’s patrons granted Simelane temporary ownership for six months.‘Rubber’ is officially the new managing director of Mbabane Highlanders for the next six months, and all paperwork will be signed tomorrow,” said a source.
resurgence
Simelane, who previously held the position from 2013 to 2016, was instrumental during a period of resurgence for the team, narrowly missing out on the league title by just a point in 2016, with Royal Leopard emerging as the champions. His contributions during this tumultuous time reportedly included the procurement of a striking Nike white and black kit, among other initiatives. However, Kgomongwe has expressed his discontent, stating that no one can take control of his team without his consent or through proper channels.
“There are no patrons in the company, and how are they going to remove my name from the company register? How can they do that?” he asked rhetorically.
