MBABANE - Eswatini professional golfer Nobuhle Dlamini has experienced a significant decline in her world ranking, as the 2025 season approaches. Once brimming with potential, Dlamini now finds herself plummeting to the 779th position, a stark contrast to her previous years of hopeful promise. She is poised to enhance her ranking in the first two tournaments of the year. The first is the Lalla Meryem Cup, held in Morocco from February 6-8, boasting a purse of E8.7 million. This will be followed by the NTT DATA Ladies Pro-Am, scheduled for February 14-16 at the Fancourt Golf Estate in George, South Africa, which offers a prize fund of E2.5 million.

The golf season has not been kind to Dlamini in recent years. Her journey through the rankings reveals both setbacks and brief moments of triumph. In 2024, the Lobamba-born golfer competed in seven events, but frustration mounted as she managed only a single top 10 finish at the Dutch Ladies Open. This lack of consistency saw her rank drop to 773 by year-end. Reflecting on her performances in 2023, the 32-year-old entered four tournaments, unfortunately failing to make a significant impact, which culminated in a disheartening finish of 731 in the rankings.

The year 2022, however, was a different story. Dlamini showcased her talent in 20 events, claiming an admirable finish with numerous top 10 placements, including a notable showing at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open, where she finished tied for 11th  place. Despite her efforts, she concluded the year ranked 507th , illustrating both potential and struggle. The year prior, 2021, marked one of her better seasons. Participating in 17 tournaments, she achieved a top 10 finish and finished 481st  in the rankings. She dazzled at the Aramco Team Series - Jeddah, where she tied for 18th  place, providing a glimmer of hope as her ranking climbed higher.

Each preceding year presented its own challenges. In 2020, while she played in six events, she struggled to make a mark and finished at 610. The year 2019 was another tough year, with her ranking slipping to 617 after 12 events, despite a promising tie for 12th  place at the Lacoste Ladies Open de France. Her early career reflected hard work and determination.  In 2018, she competed in nine events, but ended the year ranked at 822.  The year 2017 was particularly difficult, as Dlamini could only play in three events, resulting in a staggering drop to 1 197. Looking further back, 2016 saw her participating in six events and finishing at 878.

Then there was 2015, where the seeds of her potential were sown; during her 12 competitions, Dlamini managed a first-place finish, even if just once, and ended the season ranked 722. In summary, the rankings are not just a measure of success; they are a vital component in promoting the sport, providing opportunities and ensuring that female golfers receive the recognition they deserve.
