SWALLOWS OFFER MADJA TO RIVALS HIGHLANDERS
MBABANE – In a rare move, Mbabane Swallows have reportedly offered Mbabane Highlanders the services of defender Karim Madja for the rest of the season through a loan deal.
The red and white capital city giants announced the signing of the player, who joined from Ghanaian Premier League side Elmina Sharks at the start of the season. He joined the club alongside players Emmanuel Owusu, who was later released, Bongi ‘Karas’ Magagula and Biko Sibandze.
The strong defender started his Swallows career on a high note, scoring the winning goal and securing a 1-0 victory in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminaries at Lucas Moripe Stadium against Ferroviario da Beira from Mozambique.
Following confidential reports from reliable sources close to Umkhonto KaShaka, it appears that defender Madja has been offered to rival team Mbabane Highlanders by his agent, Bongani Nxumalo from Rio Academy. “Karim Madja has been offered to Mbabane Highlanders for the rest of the season and with the defender earning over E7 000, it’s too much for the club who are trying to lower their monthly wage bill,” the source said.
In a parallel development, the player’s agent confirmed to this publication that his client has indeed been offered to Mbabane Highlanders. Nxumalo added that discussions are still underway between the parties, with the aim of reaching a mutually beneficial agreement that would facilitate the player’s transfer. “We are yet to finalise talks with Mbabane Swallows regarding this matter, as I believe that you can’t loan a foreign player to another team, and if they want to release him, they should do so that he can find game time with another team,” he said.
Nxumalo, in his role as Madja’s agent, elaborated on the intricacies of the defender’s contract with Swallows FC. Emphasising the strong, versatile player’s immense talent, Nxumalo pointed to the Ghanaian’s goal-scoring prowess in the CAF Champions League as irrefutable proof of his value as a player.
Enquiries
Responding to enquiries about the proposed transfer of Madja from Swallows FC to Mbabane Highlanders, the chairman of the latter’s management committee (MC), Mbongeni Khumalo, denied having any knowledge of the matter at the time. The chairman emphasised that, although he was not privy to any discussions regarding the transfer, it was possible that such negotiations could be taking place without his awareness.
