MBABANE – Siza Dlamini, the dedicated Head teacher of Mbuluzi High School, has reiterated his unwavering commitment to championing the Epilepsy Marathon. This heartfelt pledge came during the ninth edition of the Yellow Epilepsy Half Marathon, held at the OlympAfrica Centre at Lobamba. Dlamini passionately urged greater participation from the emaSwati community, stating: “This race should see greater participation from emaSwati, considering its powerful cause. At the moment, the turnout is disappointing.

We must all rally behind this event. Epilepsy is a serious condition, and many of us have loved ones living with it. It is our responsibility to show up and support them.” Despite the modest numbers, Dlamini remains resolute in his dual role as both a participant and a financial contributor to this vital cause. “Even if I cannot race in future editions, I will ensure my contributions are felt. It’s more than just a race; it is a call to stand by our people in need,” he emphasised.

Competition

This year marked Dlamini’s inaugural appearance at the event, and he expressed that, for him, the marathon transcended mere competition.“I was invited by my colleague, Dumisani ‘Summer’ Kunene, and it has been a truly moving experience. I encourage others to join us next time, to lend their support and make a tangible difference in the lives of those struggling with this condition,” he remarked. In the 21km race, Dlamini faced the usual physical challenges, particularly the demanding hills, yet he completed the race in an impressive 1:55 hours.

“The race was great, and the weather was perfect; I could have kept running all day. I am happy with my performance,” he highlighted. Known for his dedication to running and community support, Dlamini consistently uses his athletic achievements to inspire others. Last year, he demonstrated extraordinary resilience during the Imbube Marathon 42.2km, where he ran in honour of his son, Mavela Dlamini, a learner at Mbuluzi High.

Accident

Mavela had been involved in a horrific accident, and Dlamini’s efforts raised awareness and funds for his son’s medical expenses, inspiring many to contribute to the cause. For Siza Dlamini, running is never just about crossing the finish line; it is about making a difference and leaving a lasting impact on his community. Join him in this noble cause and help create a brighter future for those affected by epilepsy.
