I’ll share prize money with teammates – Sea Birds star
MANZINI – Manzini Sea Birds star Mpendulo Tfomo has attributed the Man of the Match award to his teammates. Tfomo rightfully earned the accolade after playing a pivotal role in helping his team secure a draw against Mbabane Swallows, yesterday. The match concluded in a 1-all draw at Mavuso Sports Centre.“The increase in our fan base motivates us as a team. They inspire us to perform better and provide the energy to keep pushing,” Tfomo remarked. Recently, Sea Birds have garnered a dedicated fan base, primarily composed of enthusiastic women and some men.
Despite the modest attendance of approximately 100 supporters per game, their passionate singing and chanting create an atmosphere of over 500 spectators for the duration of the match.When asked if he expected to win the Man of the Match, he humbly admitted he did not, but he consistently strives to elevate his performance in every game. “I simply adhere to the coach’s plan, which enables me to execute his instructions effectively,” he stated.
Regarding the E1 000 prize, Tfomo expressed his intention to share it with his teammates, acknowledging that their collective effort made it possible for him to shine on the day. In the match between Moneni Pirates and Sidwashini United, which concluded with a 2-0 victory for the former, Mazwi Sihlongonyane stated that he could not have clinched the award without the unwavering support of his teammates. He also expressed his gratitude to Coach Caleb Ngwenya for his relentless encouragement during training, emphasising that this is the reason they do not tire easily during matches.
