LEOPARD BLOCK JUNIOR’S SA PREMIERSHIP MOVE
MBABANE - Revealed! MTN Premier League log leaders Royal Leopard midfield maestro Junior Magagula’s potential move to Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United has been stalled due to his ongoing probation with the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS). This was revealed by KYRO Sports Agency Director Mhlonishwa Shiba, who confirmed that the national team Sihlangu midfield kingpin is among several players identified for trials with Sekhukhune United. Shiba explained that other earmarked players include Moneni Pirates’ Rio
Matsenjwa, Nsingizini Hotspurs’ newly-signed star Kwakhe ‘Stopper’ Thwala, and Mbabane Swallows’ enterprising attacker Bongi ‘Karas’ Magagula. However, the football administrator revealed that all potential moves to South Africa had been ultimately ruined by a lack of cooperation from local teams regarding the release of players to try their luck with teams beyond the country’s borders. “Eswatini has players who have the potential to make the grade in South Africa’s elite teams and their second-tier league, but our local teams are reluctant to release them,” Shiba asserted. He cited Junior Magagula’s case as a prime example.
Refused
Despite being slated for trials at Sekhukhune United, his team, Ingwe Mabalabala, reportedly refused to release him, citing his ongoing probation with the police following his recent graduation as a police officer. It’s worth noting that KYRO Sports Agency recently facilitated trials for Nsingizini Hotspurs and Sihlangu attacking midfielder Thubelihle Mavuso at the struggling Betway Premiership outfit Magesi FC. Despite impressing Coach Owen Da Gama, Mavuso reportedly had a change of heart about returning to South Africa. Shiba made these comments during an interview on Eswatini TV’s Monday prime time news bulletin.
In a separate interview with this publication, he revealed that no local players will be considered for trials in South African teams at present, though he declined to elaborate on the reasons behind this decision. Meanwhile, the police service’s seasoned Public Relations Officer (PRO) Frank Hurube said there are channels that should be followed when a player is needed and could not go into details on how long probation takes in the force, as the employer for Junior is government. It is worth mentioning that it is common for employers to give their new full-time employees a probation period of three to six months.
