LUDZELUDZE – In a deeply emotional display of love and solidarity, over 1 000 people came together to bid farewell to Sibonginkosi ‘Gudas’ Dlamini. The talented box-to-box midfielder’s burial followed a memorial service at the Prophetic Voice Church and a night vigil at his family home. Supporters, players and officials from across the sporting community united to celebrate his life, singing, blowing vuvuzelas and sharing heartfelt memories of his character. Dlamini’s legacy as a fun-loving, respectful and passionate individual was palpable as mourners honoured him with tears and tributes.

Mourning

As the ceremony concluded, his infectious smile and vibrant presence remained etched in the hearts of those mourning his untimely loss. Boy Dlamini, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed profound gratitude for the overwhelming support received. “The loss of our beloved Sibonginkosi has left us reeling with profound grief and shock, as we had envisioned him flourishing in his soccer career and nurturing a long and meaningful relationship with his young son. However, we find comfort in acknowledging that God’s will is beyond our understanding,” he said.

“He was truly exceptional with the ball at his feet.” These words were expressed by Nsingizini Hotspurs players Kwakhe ‘Stopper’ Thwala and Neliswa ‘Tiger’ Dlamini, who fondly reminisced about growing up and playing football with ‘Gudas’ in the dusty streets of Ludzeludze. They highlighted his pure passion for the sport, which transcended any material or financial motivation. “We are utterly shattered by his unexpected passing. A brother to us, we grew up together, creating memories that we will cherish forever. On behalf of our friend group, we extend our deepest condolences to the Dlamini family, the Eswatini soccer community and the people of Ludzeludze.

Though Sibonginkosi’s light may have dimmed, his spirit lives on in all those who were fortunate enough to know him,” they stated. Former teammate Kingsley Kwayki also shared his grief, recalling their time together at Denver Sundowns and Mbabane Swallows. “He was truly exceptional with the ball at his feet, and for me, his death remains unbelievable,” he remarked. Soccer officials and players, including Sidwashini United’s Director Melizwe Mamba and Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows Chairman Charles Matsebula, were among those who paid their last respects.
