SHOCK AS G. MAMBA’S ‘MAVESTAR’ DIES
MBABANE – Death has struck again. Following two funerals of sportsmen over the past weekend, the football fraternity in the country is mourning yet another loss. Just last Saturday, Isaac Ndlangamandla, the former Young Buffaloes Assistant Coach and Rangers Physical Trainer, was laid to rest. Ndlangamandla passed away on January 30, 2025 after a month-long battle with illness, as reported by his team. Adding to the sorrow, Sidwashini United midfielder, Sibonginkhosi ‘Gudas’ Dlamini, tragically died last Monday while undergoing treatment at RFM Hospital in Manzini.
His death, attributed to a severe headache, has further deepened the community’s grief. Then, yesterday afternoon, came more devastating news. At around 4pm, reports emerged regarding the passing of Green Mamba’s Siciniseko ‘Mavestar’ Magagula, who was the man behind the vibrant team’s social media page. This unfortunate event marks the third death in quick succession, occurring within a span of just 11 days. Aged 31, ‘Mavestar’ was described by his club as a devoted supporter. Magagula also served as the photographer and social media manager for the Correctional Services team, primarily managing their Facebook page.
Passing
While his family could not be reached for immediate comment yesterday, Green Mamba confirmed they had been formally informed of his passing. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mandla Sibiya, expressed the club’s devastation, describing ‘Mavestar’ as an invaluable asset. “His sister informed us, and we are devastated,” Sibiya said. “He was a people’s person, down-to-earth, and always passionate about his work,” Sibiya explained that Magagula joined the club around 2010 as a supporter, and his love for the team inspired him to become their photographer, utilising his considerable graphic skills. He had studied Creative Multimedia at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.
Trendsetter
“He was a trendsetter; Green Mamba led the way in social media because of his skills. He created and managed our page, providing unmatched graphic design, statistics and match highlights. Other teams then followed,” Sibiya added. Sibiya also revealed that the club had been praying for Magagula’s recovery, as he had been unwell recently. His last update to their Facebook page was on January 30, and the Ernest Mavuso side’s page has remained inactive since. It was reported that ‘Mavestar’ met his untimely death while undergoing treatment at Dvokolwako Hospital.
