PAT VILAKATI, MASONDO SCOOP TOP PLE POSTS
MBABANE – The Chairman of the PLE, Polycarp Dlamini, along with his executive committee, has announced the immediate appointment of Pat ‘Kungumusa’ Vilakati and Banele Masondo. This decision was revealed during a press briefing, confirming that Vilakati and Masondo, who had been serving in interim roles, are now officially appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Football Manager of the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), respectively. Dlamini highlighted the importance of these appointments, stating that Vilakati will serve as CEO for a period of four years.
This move aims to establish a stable and focused leadership structure within the PLE for the foreseeable future. “I’m delighted to announce the appointment of Pat Vilakati and Banele Masondo as our Chief Executive Officer and Football Manager respectively. We are confident in their passion and expertise as football-oriented individuals, who will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the advancement of our league,” Dlamini remarked. In his address to the newly-appointed duo, the president of Ezulwini United underscored the magnitude of their responsibilities and the high expectations that come with their roles. He urged them to approach their tasks with utmost integrity and a sense of distinction, always embodying the values of the organisation.
When asked about their achievements during the first 100 days in their interim roles, Dlamini briefly mentioned that exciting developments regarding sponsorship are on the horizon, reflecting the league’s ongoing efforts to secure additional sponsors and elevate the competition. Vilakati, speaking on behalf of his newly-appointed team, pledged to use his position as CEO to propel the Premier League of Eswatini towards new heights of growth and success.
He stated: “This appointment is both a humbling honour and a significant responsibility that I shall fulfil with integrity and fortitude. Together with Banele Masondo, we shall inject fresh vigour into this organisation, uniting our collective passion and expertise to guide the PLE into a prosperous future.” Echoing Vilakati’s commitment, Masondo expressed his profound gratitude and confidence on being entrusted with this important role. Vilakati is among the longest-serving employees at the PLE, having previously served as the chief operations officer (COO) before stepping into the role of football manager late last season.
Resignation
He was appointed following the resignation of CEO Kenneth Makhanya, who returned to Betway Premiership side Mamelodi Sundowns. Vilakati has also served under the Manzini Regional Football Association (MRFA) prior to joining the PLE. Conversely, Masondo is a highly experienced football administrator, having been responsible for sport development since 2014. Since joining the PLE, he has become the face of development and oversees the development leagues.
