PLE FINES BUFFALOES, EZULWINI UTD
MBABANE – Elite league teams continue to bolster the coffers of the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) through disciplinary fines. Ezulwini United and Young Buffaloes have been penalised a combined E70 000 by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Disciplinary Committee (DC) for separate incidents earlier this year. The two clubs appeared before the Thulani Sibandze-chaired DC to respond to charges of breaching the 2024/25 MTN Premier League Rules and Regulations.Ezulwini United were represented by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nsindiso Tsabedze.
The club faced two charges stemming from their league match against Moneni Pirates at Mavuso Sports Centre. In count one, Ezulwini United were accused of contravening Article 7(1)(c) due to player misconduct that resulted in the assault of a Pirates player. They were also charged under Article 7(1)(g) for failing to control the player who committed the offence during the match. The DC imposed a E40 000 fine for the assault charge (count two), recognising its gravity. However, half of the fine (E20 000) was suspended for the remainder of the season.
The club was explicitly warned against repeating the offence during the final four months of the season. Should they breach this warning, the suspended E20 000 will be enforced alongside any new penalties. Ezulwini United are now liable to pay E20 000. Young Buffaloes, represented by CEO Sandile Gwebu, faced three charges in relation to their match against Mbabane Swallows: In count one, they were accused of contravening Article 7(1)(b) due to their fans or supporters engaging in threatening conduct towards match officials.
Charged
They were further charged under Article 7(1)(g) for failing to control supporters who committed misconduct. They were accused of breaching Article 7(1)(k) for failure to maintain order during the match. On the first count, Young Buffaloes were fined E15 000. They were acquitted of the second charge after pleading not guilty. For the third count, the DC imposed another E15 000 fine, but this was suspended with the condition that they refrain from similar offences for the remainder of the season. Should they do a similar offence, the suspended fine will be enforced. Buffaloes are now required to pay E15 000.
