BARBOSA, KIKY, BHOLOJA PRIMED FOR QUALIFIERS
MBABANE – Eswatini’s prolific bodybuilders, Arnaldo Barbosa, Kiky Santos and Bholoja Lukhele have approximately one month left to prepare for international qualifiers. The competition, dubbed the David K Classics, is set to take place on March 12 in Cape Town, marking Lukhele’s very first foray into competitive bodybuilding. Barbosa and Santos will be making their return to competition after more than six months on the sidelines, adhering to a new training programme that is nearing its conclusion.
Excitement
Notably, Lukhele is fortunate to be trained by the fifth-placed World Championship holder, Barbosa. Lukhele expressed his excitement, stating: “This is still a dream come true for me, as I will be competing for the very first time just months after I took up the sport.” He conveyed his gratitude for the opportunity provided by Barbosa, emphasising that he would not let him down, as this chance means the world to him.
“We are training and preparing well. Just yesterday (Tuesday), I was training with him, and I will have another session with him later at 2pm at Mavuso today,” Lukhele added. He also noted that access to the right equipment has been instrumental in toning his body for his designated competition category. “The rural areas do not have all this fancy equipment that we need. “We have been accustomed to using our own makeshift weights made from concrete blocks for the majority of our workouts,”
Lacked
Lukhele explained. Furthermore, he revealed that Barbosa’s guidance has been invaluable, particularly in areas of training where he previously lacked knowledge, such as diet and training intensity. The debuting bodybuilder mentioned that throughout this month, they will be prioritising gym equipment, as Barbosa indicated that there are several aspects of his training that require refinement with the appropriate tools. It is important to note that the upcoming David K Classics will serve as the official qualifiers for the Muscle Mania and Fitness America 2025 shows, which are set to take place in Las Vegas. The qualifiers are scheduled for March 15 in Corpus Christi, Cape Town, while the Muscle Mania event will occur in June.
