MBABANE – Changes!

MTN Premier League strugglers Madlenya FC have re-appointed William ‘Baggio’ Gamedze as their Head Coach, just less than three months after he resigned. Gamedze had initially walked away following a humiliating 1-7 defeat at the hands of Ezulwini United in an MTN Premier League match.

‘Baggio’ takes the reins from Vusisizwe Mahlalela, who was appointed a mere 64 days ago to lead the struggling Lubombo-based side. A media statement released by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Comfort Jele confirmed Gamedze’s reinstatement for the remainder of the league campaign.

The club has also bolstered its technical team with the appointment of former Mbabane Swallows, Mbabane Highlanders and Young Buffaloes Coach, Zenzele ‘Ace’ Dlamini, as Technical Director (TD). The towering Dlamini previously worked with the outgoing Mahlalela at Tambankulu Callies, now known as Red Rhinos in the MTN National First Division (NFD).

Deliberations

“We are pleased to officially announce that after deliberations on the club’s performance, we have amicably parted ways with our head coach,” the statement read. It went on to explain that Gamedze had been reinstated to fill the vacancy left by the former Nsingizini Hotspurs coach.

“In a bid to strengthen the technical bench, we have also appointed Zenzele Dlamini as Technical Director,” the statement added. Madlenya FC expressed gratitude to Mahlalela for his contributions since joining the club on December 11, 2024.

These changes signal a determined effort by the club to avoid relegation. Jele stated that the primary mandate for the duo was survival, as the team are currently not in a favourable position on the table. “We see that there is a lot that needs to be fixed in the team, and we are hoping that the two will help us remain in the Premier League,” Jele remarked. He further revealed that the appointments of Gamedze and Dlamini take effect immediately, as they are expected to commence training with the team today.

Bottom

Jozi Gobana KaMadlenya, as the team are fondly known in local football, are languishing at the bottom of the table, with a mere three points to show from 15 games in the league. Mahlalela’s situation mirrors that of Tottenham Hotspur, who sacked Nuno Espirito Santo in 2021 just four months into his tenure, following a series of disappointing performances.
