MAYALUKA – Royal Leopard have clinched the last semi-final spot in the prestigious Ingwenyama Cup tournament. This follows a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ezulwini United in a gripping encounter at Mayaluka Stadium in Big Bend, yesterday. The match, attended by around 1 000 passionate fans, showcased a blend of tactical prowess and individual brilliance, ultimately defined by a moment of magic from Thembisa Shabangu. The contest unfolded as a compelling narrative of contrasting halves. Royal Leopard asserted their dominance in the first period, controlling possession and dictating the pace of the game.

Momentum

The breakthrough came in the 35th  minute, when Royal Leopard finally breached the resolute defence of Ezulwini United. Gift ‘Jobe’ Gamedze initiated a slick move from the backline, finding Simanga ‘Stina’ Masangane on the wing. Masangane displayed quick thinking as he transferred the ball to Junior ‘Shisa Gesi’ Magagula, who then delivered a perfectly weighted pass to Shabangu. The midfielder, exhibiting both finesse and accuracy, unleashed a stunning curling shot from the edge of the box.

The effort left Ezulwini United’s goalkeeper Siyabonga Magagula completely helpless as the ball nestled into the top corner, igniting a wave of jubilation among the Royal Leopard supporters. In response to the growing pressure, Ezulwini United’s Coach Musa Manyatsi swiftly made tactical adjustments, substituting Melusi Magagula for the promising midfielder Sifiso Mazibuko. The objective was clear: to reclaim control and find an equaliser before the half-time whistle. The second half saw Ezulwini United increase their intensity, determined to overturn the deficit.

Just 10 minutes in, defender Mpendulo Simelane came close to levelling the scores with a powerful effort from 35 yards that soared just over the crossbar, sending a ripple of concern through the Leopard camp. Ezulwini continued to press forward, and in the 77th minute, Mazibuko had a golden opportunity to equalise. Rising majestically to meet a well-placed cross, he directed a header towards goal, only to see it drift agonisingly wide of the post. Despite their valiant efforts and mounting pressure, Ezulwini United could not find a way past the resolute Royal Leopard defence.

Victory

As the final whistle blew, signalling a 1-0 victory for Royal Leopard, the atmosphere in the stadium soared to new heights, with fans erupting in celebration. With this hard-earned win, Royal Leopard joined Mbabane Swallows, Moneni Pirates and Young Buffaloes in the semi-finals of the Ingwenyama Cup. The stakes are high as anticipation builds for the semi-final draw, with a prize of E1.45 million awaiting the champions, while the runners-up will secure E650 000. Even those who do not reach the final will benefit, with each losing semi-finalist guaranteed E225 000.
