MBABANE – Eswatini professional golfer Nobuhle Dlamini came tantalisingly close to clinching victory at the NTT Data Ladies Pro-Am. She finished third in this prestigious annual tournament, held in the stunning Western Cape from Friday to Sunday, after carding a combined score of 211. This was the first Ladies Sunshine Tour event of 2025. Dlamini showcased her prowess by leading after the second round with an impressive three-under-par, following a stellar opening round of five-under-par. However, the final round proved challenging as she struggled, finishing with two-over-par, bringing her total to one-under-par.

The tournament had a lucrative prize purse of E2.5 million, attracting top talent from across the globe. Dlamini shared the spotlight with England’s Florentyna Parker, who also finished with a score of 211, both securing a substantial share of the prize money. The tournament was ultimately won by Danielle du Toit, who commended Dlamini for her commendable performance. “Competing against Lee-Anne Pace, Nobuhle, and all those players, you have to put together a low round,” Du Toit remarked.

Bogey-free

“I had already played a bogey-free round on the first day, so I aimed to replicate that and hopefully sink a few more putts.” In an interview prior to the final round, Dlamini expressed her aspirations: “Winning this tournament twice would be an incredible achievement. It’s one of the best events we participate in, featuring top players competing for a purse of R2.5 million. A victory here would be monumental in such a prestigious setting.” Reflecting on her past triumph in 2019, Dlamini remained optimistic as she sought to secure another win. “I still carry that winning feeling. Although I didn’t strike the ball as well as I did yesterday, I believe I performed admirably overall.

Comfort

“I plan to hit some balls on the driving range to regain my comfort for the final round. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to come back stronger. I’m still leading, and I’m pleased with that.” Efforts to obtain comments from Dlamini after the tournament proved futile, as she did not respond to questions sent to her via WhatsApp.
